Libra season starts on September 23rd and lasts until October 22nd, almost coinciding with equinox, one of two days in the year where we experience equal day and night, typically happening on September 21st. For many, equinox also signifies the start of a new season, the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere and the start of spring in the Southern Hemisphere.
Autumnal Equinox - A Time of Transition
In the Northern Hemisphere, as autumn season approaches, and the days get longer, setting the path towards winter, we can use this mark in the cycle of the seasons to acknowledge not just the change of external sensations as the seasons shift, but also a transition in internal rhythms. We can use this time to consciously embrace a journey which is more inward focused, slower paced and with perhaps less focus on external achievement.
Autumn's arrival also suggests harvest time and we can use this symbolism to look back at all the seeds we planted earlier in the year, all the efforts we nurtured and cared for, and reflect on all that arose in our lives because of these efforts, to reap the benefits of our intentions from these experiences, including the challenges. As we gently leave summer behind us we can start to embrace not only the darkness coming from upcoming shorter days, but also shift our awareness to the darkness within, also reflected as inner polarity.
Reflections on Inner Conviction
Libra is a sign heavily associated with justice, balance, fairness, transition and change. With the scale being a common symbol assigned to this sign, the notion of polarity can also be considered. What is good what is bad, what is light what is dark? Where do these polarities meet, is there a crossover? Who is the one making these judgments and is their room for deeper pondering outside habitual presumptions?
While Libra energy often deals with and encourages social justice, we can also use this energy to consider individual righteousness. What is it to lead a life or follow a path devoted to one’s own inner conviction? How important is it to go along with societies standards versus one’s own path of authenticity?
Libra is an energy, which can assist us on deciphering what feels right and wrong to us as individuals as well as provide extra compassion and forgiveness not only for ourselves as we attempt to walk this sometimes tricky path, but also to those around us, knowing very well there maybe be stumbles along the way.
We encourage taking a moments pause during this this special time of year as the seasons shift and the general feeling of balance is possibly more present to weigh in on what perhaps is available to us now, in this very moment, to transform or alchemize, as we harvest our bounty. And what in contrast is not ours, or in our best interest as individuals and a collective, to carry forward into the future and is better left behind...
